Backfit Assessment

What’s your BackScore™?

Think of your BackScore™ as a report card for your spinal health and a critical component to how we assess and measure your spinal health. It is very thorough and may delve into aspects of your health that you might not associate with your back or neck pain, but they may hold the clues to unlocking the cause of the underlying issue.

The assessment process involves 2 visits to our clinic. The first visit is when we gather all the information including, but not limited to the following:

Activity habits
Nutrition habits
Mental/Emotional habits
Nerve health
Posture
Joint health
Muscular strength and endurance
Disc health
X-rays may also be taken if deemed necessary by the doctor.

The second visit is when you return to review your BackScore™ results with the doctor and discuss options and recommendations. Because we believe in empowering you regarding your spinal health, it is important that we give you all the information regarding the health of your spine. For some this can be a bit overwhelming, so we always recommend bringing along another set of eyes and ears in the form of a partner, spouse, or trusted friend!
There is never any obligation for care.

FAQ

Getting started is simple. Give us a call, set up a time and meet with a Backfit chiropractor. We are good listeners and experienced clinicians. Learn what we can do to help you. Simply contact us to give us a call or send us an email to find out more.
Research has shown time and time again that Chiropractic care is not only safe, but also effective at relieving pain, correcting spinal misalignments and increasing the health of your nervous system. If you have further concerns please consult our chiropractors.
Your spine is completely unique. Therefore, your chiropractor will be as thorough as possible in determining what exactly is going on, before commencing treatment. Treatment will begin once you have seen your chiropractor and the BackScore review is complete. During this time your doctor will be able to provide you with diagnoses and recommendations for treatment. Once that is done it is up to you to decide what treatment frequency will work. It is important to know exactly what your spinal health status is, before commencing treatment.
We recommend that patients arrive at least 5 minutes early to read new patient documents.

Disc Therapy

Disc therapy works to mechanically re-hydrate your discs thereby helping to reduce symptoms associated with disc compression. Since 2007, we have helped thousands of patients reduce and eliminate their back pain through a combination of disc therapy, chiropractic alignments and physio inspired home exercises. We can help you.

Do you suffer from any of the following symptoms?

Sciatica – Pain or stiffness down your leg
Parasthesia –Tingling or numbness down your leg or arm
Radiating pain down your shoulder, arm or hand
Headaches

Have you been diagnosed with any of the following?

Disc Compression
Spinal Stenosis
Disc Herniation
Disc Bulge (protrusion, extrusion)

If you’ve answered YES to any of these, we may have the solution you’ve been looking for.

“At Backfit, each person is treated as an individual and therapy is custom prescribed.”

Once you have had a Backfit assessment and we have determined the cause of your symptoms, we will create a prescription of disc therapy, alignment therapy and home care exercises. Your unique prescription is designed to correct and stabilize your specific spinal condition.

Our Backfit treatment philosophy, built upon research and clinical experience, is that disc-injured patients, particularly in their initial stages of treatment, need a focused disc therapy treatment protocol. While we strongly believe in active rehab, focusing on muscle therapy, stretches, or advanced core exercises too soon can be a mistake. Your Backfit doctor will be able to determine what the best course of treatment is for your spine.

The most common conditions treated by spinal decompression therapy include herniated discs, bulging, compressed or protruding discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, spinal arthritis, posterior facet syndrome and sciatica. We have found that disc decompression is most effective when combined with alignment therapy and core exercises.

Meet with a Backfit doctor to find out if disc therapy can help you.

Spinal Alignment

Is your posture compromised?

Computer work, texting, carrying a backpack or purse on one shoulder or activities that stress one side of the body and not the other (such as golf) could all contribute to compromising your posture. Intentionally or unintentionally repeating these habits can lead to long-term postural changes.

The most common effect of a compromised posture is muscle pain and stiffness. The body must work harder to keep you stable and your joints protected. This can cause lasting pain and tightness, particularly in neck and low back musculature. This can also be indicative of a spinal misalignment.

If you are not sure if you have a misalignment in your spine, an effective way to assess your own posture is to look at yourself in the mirror, or at an old picture. Generally speaking, if one of your shoulders is higher than the other, it is safe to say that you may have a misalignment in your spine.

How can a misalignment in your spine affect your back or neck?

Think of it this way… if one of the wheels in your car is out of balance and you keep driving, that imbalanced wheel will “wear out” faster than it should. This same principle holds true with your body when you are out of alignment. It is well documented in research that an imbalanced spine can lead to premature aging of the spinal joints; bones, discs and nerves.

The good thing is, spinal misalignments can be corrected! Through chiropractic treatment and a series of exercises that retrain postural reflexes, doctors and staff will help you get back a healthy posture.

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that can help promote regeneration and reparative processes in the bones, tendons, and other soft tissues. The acceleration of these healing processes leads to decreased pain, increased function and mobility, and an improvement in one’s overall quality of life.

Who is Shockwave Therapy for?

Shockwave Therapy is indicated for and proven to help patients who suffer from:

Plantar fasciitis
Calcific tendinitis
Myofascial pain syndrome
Fibromyalgia
Trigger point pain
And many other conditions

If you are wondering if Shockwave Therapy is right for you, contact us today!

FAQ

Shockwave Therapy is performed with a machine that delivers strong energy pulses to the treatment area. These energy pulses (shockwaves) are transmitted to and throughout the tissues, which kick-starts the body’s own healing processes, stimulates metabolic processes, and enhances circulation in order to more quickly and effectively regenerate the damaged tissue.

Shockwave Therapy can:

Reverse chronic inflammation, which can damage healthy tissue throughout the body
Stimulate collagen production, which is necessary in the repair processes of damaged myoskeletal structures and ligaments
Dissolves calcium build-ups that can form around damaged tendons
Disperse neurotransmitters that manage the pain messages our central nervous system receives, decreasing chronic pain
Release trigger points by restoring blood supply to the affected muscle fibers

While shockwave therapy is not meant to be a painful process, there may be some discomfort involved. The treatment intensity depends on the area being treated, the type of equipment the therapist determines is appropriate, and the patient’s individual pain tolerance. There may also be some residual ache for 24-48 hrs with accompanying minor swelling.

Most of the conditions listed above can be treated in less than five sessions, although trigger points may require up to 10 sessions. These treatments should occur within 5-10 days of each other. In order to maximize their effectiveness, these treatments should be paired with functional stretches and exercises given to you by your manual therapist.

Class IV Laser Therapy

Class IV Laser Therapy is a versatile treatment option for various musculoskeletal conditions. It is a non-invasive approach that utilizes a high-powered laser to stimulate tissue repair and alleviate pain. By targeting specific areas, this therapy promotes the healing process, reduces inflammation, stimulates healthy cell function, improves nerve regeneration, and enhances overall tissue regeneration.

Here’s a list of who laser therapy can be beneficial for, based on supported peer-reviewed research for various conditions:

Epicondylitis (e.g., tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow)
Neck pain and Low back pain
Osteoarthritis
Sciatica
Tendon or Ligament injury
Knee pain and shoulder pain
Plantar fasciitis
Pain related to fractures
And many more conditions

FAQ

Class IV laser therapy works by delivering powerful light energy deep into the body’s tissues. This stimulates healing processes, reduces inflammation, and blocks pain signals, offering a non-invasive way to relieve pain and promote tissue repair. We will select settings on the machine that align with your specific condition.
Class IV laser therapy is painless and is often described as a gentle warming sensation at the treatment site. Some people may feel a slight tingling or soothing sensation during the session. Overall, it’s generally well-tolerated and does not cause discomfort for most individuals.
The number of sessions needed for Class IV laser therapy can vary depending on the condition being treated, its severity, and individual response to treatment. Typically, a course of treatment may involve multiple sessions scheduled over several weeks. Many people experience noticeable improvement after just a few sessions, while others may require additional treatments for optimal results. At Backfit, we will assess your progress and recommend the appropriate number of sessions based on your specific needs and response to treatment.
